[VIDEO] Restoring dignity

10.3.2024

After surviving unimaginable hardships both on land and at sea, the people rescued by the Ocean Viking begin to reconnect with life through the simplest of activities: taking a shower, preparing a meal, cutting their hair, or doing laundry.

It may seem simple, but for survivors who arrive with little more than the clothes on their backs, often soaked in fuel, having the chance to wash their garments is critical. This small act helps restore a sense of dignity after days, months, or even years of hardship, with limited access to hygiene facilities in Libya and throughout their perilous journey.

For most survivors, simply being able to perform everyday tasks and being treated with empathy and kindness helps them reconnect with their humanity and regain a sense of hope.
